Who we are

The Testing Desk (thetestingdesk.co.uk) is an independent website that tests and compares software and online tools for UK buyers. It is run by [YOUR FULL NAME], based in London, United Kingdom.

You can contact us at hello@thetestingdesk.co.uk or through our contact page.

Affiliate disclosure

The Testing Desk is reader-supported. Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and then sign up or buy, the company may pay us a commission. You never pay more because you used our link.

Affiliate links are marked on the page. At the top of every article that contains them we show a short notice, so you know before you click.

How this affects our recommendations

  • Rankings are not for sale. No company can pay to be listed, ranked higher or reviewed more favourably.
  • We include tools that don't pay us. If a tool is the right choice for a job, we recommend it whether or not it has an affiliate programme.
  • We publish drawbacks. Every tool we cover has a "Drawbacks" section, including the ones that pay us.
  • Prices change. We check prices against each vendor's own pricing page when we update an article, but always confirm the price on the vendor's site before you buy.

Affiliate links on this site use the rel="sponsored" attribute, which tells search engines they are paid links.

Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). [YOUR FULL NAME] is the data controller.

What we collect and why

  • Messages you send us. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply to you. Our legal basis is legitimate interests: answering your enquiry. We keep messages for up to 12 months, then delete them.
  • Technical data. Our hosting provider, Netlify, automatically records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used to keep the site secure and working. Our legal basis is legitimate interests.
  • Fonts. This site loads its fonts from Google Fonts. To deliver them, Google receives your IP address. See Google's privacy policy.

We do not currently use analytics or advertising trackers on this site. We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not use it for marketing unless you have asked to receive emails from us.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Netlify, Inc. (United States): website hosting and contact form handling.
  • Our email provider: to receive and answer your messages.

Where a provider is based outside the UK, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.

Affiliate links and other websites

When you click an affiliate link, you leave our site. The company or affiliate network you visit may record that you came from us, usually with a cookie on their own site, so they can pay us a commission. Their privacy policies apply to what happens there.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • ask us to correct or delete it
  • object to or restrict how we use it
  • ask for your data in a portable format

To use any of these rights, email hello@thetestingdesk.co.uk. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if we change how we use personal data, and change the date at the top.

Cookies

This site does not set any cookies of its own, and we do not use analytics or advertising cookies.

Cookies may be set by other websites after you leave ours, for example when you click an affiliate link to a tool's website. Those cookies are controlled by that website and its own cookie policy.

If we add analytics or other non-essential cookies in the future, we will ask for your consent first and update this section.
